Introducing DoWell

After working for others for my entire career, DoWell is my first opportunity to fly solo. While some of the logistics can feel daunting, I have really enjoyed thinking about how I want to show up in the world without the need to adhere to the policies or voice of a larger entity. To provide more insight about my approach and philosophies, I will be sharing my thoughts on this blog.

My career has allowed me to play many roles in the social impact world, and these experiences, and those in my personal life, have helped me develop a unique perspective that I’m excited to continue to develop via DoWell. Here are a few principles that guide me:

Honesty, Always

As a mother of two young children, I spend a lot of time talking about honesty and why it is important on a personal and societal level. But in practice, honesty isn’t always easy. I pride myself on stepping up to difficult conversations, and I think being honest in challenging situations is one of the most respectful things we can do in business and as humans. Whether it is admitting a mistake or sharing news that is bound to be disappointing, when done well, I have found that honesty usually leads to greater trust and a better relationship in the long run.

Empathy is a Superpower

Throughout my career, I have encountered some tricky situations, including donors that had very specific ideas of how funds should be used or corporate executives that thought we should support nonprofits in a set and often unhelpful way. By trying to understand the intentions and motivations of others, I have successfully built relationships and solved problems.

Leave Things Better

I am lucky enough to spend a lot of time in nature camping and hiking, and I try to go beyond the leave no trace mentality to leave things better than how I found them. I also try to bring this philosophy into my day to day life and business practices. I pride myself on this way of living and the reputation I have built because of it.

I am so excited for the next chapter of my career and the lessons that I will learn. I hope you will follow along as I share my approach to the social impact world.
